How Stranger Production and Alpenglow Media Used Spyder X20 and LED Boards to Enhance the Rolling Stones Live Super Bowl Party

Stranger Production and Alpenglow Media recently collaborated on the Rolling Stones Live Super Bowl Party, providing the video for the show using two Spyder X20s and providing 19.2 million pixels to the display systems. The displays consisted of 3 LED boards, the main stage, the DJ booth, and the VIP lounge. With additional 1080p outputs feeding monitors and records. The LED was provided by Puzzle Productions who also built the sound and lighting systems.

Overcoming Challenges in the Production Process

The use of Spyder X20s on a 4k LED processor posed a significant challenge during the production process. The Spyder X20 inputs and outputs are 1080p, and the team had to use 4 3G-SDI outputs to feed an AJA Hi5-4K-PLUS to convert a quaded-4K signal into HDMI 4k to support the resolution of the main stage LED and the DJ Booth LED. However, the team was able to overcome this challenge and provide pixel for pixel accuracy on the LED boards.

Enhancing the Concert Experience

The Spyder X20 was critical to the show’s success as it allowed for the layering of multiple pieces of content, including the Video DJs and graphics computers. The Spyder X20’s easy reconfiguration allowed the system to support multiple downstage monitors (DSMs). It also provided simultaneous control of all the system video in one box, with 16 layers of video per Spyder. The entire show fit on one Spyder, with the second Spyder always hot with the latest configuration and video signals ready to back up the show if the primary Spyder went offline.

Handling Production Surprises

During rehearsal, the team lost one camera to a stray laser that burned a line into the image sensor. Fortunately, they had a spy camera from the roof to swap it out with. When the low-end of the music kicked in during the show, most of the cameras were vibrating so terribly they could barely use them. However, the team was able to handle these production surprises and ensure that the show went on without any significant hiccups.

A Star-Studded Event

Travis Scott, Robin Thicke, DJ Irie, and DJ Whoo Kid were the featured acts at the Rolling Stones Live party, making the event an unforgettable night for all who attended.

A Week of Exciting Events

The Rolling Stones Live Super Bowl Party was not the only event hosted by Stranger Production and Alpenglow Media that week. On the first evening of load-in, the team built the stage and LED, configured the video system, and the next afternoon, they hosted the American Cancer Society charity dinner. The morning after the party, the team reconfigured again to host the GQ – Hall of Fame ceremony, where they inducted Deion Sanders, Allen Iverson, and Derek Jeter.

Conclusion

Overall, the Rolling Stones Live Super Bowl Party was a smashing success, and Stranger Production’s use of Spyder X20 and LED boards was critical to the show’s success. The Spyder X20’s ability to provide pixel for pixel accuracy on the LED boards and layer multiple pieces of content allowed for a spectacular concert experience for the audience. Additionally, Stranger Production’s ability to handle production surprises with professionalism and expertise ensured the show’s success. With two additional events hosted during the week, the team proved their expertise and versatility in the event production industry.
